A beautiful smile gives you confidence and vitality. This is why we work with experts from different disciplines in developing aesthetic dentistry solutions that are as minimally invasive as possible. For instance, we first use methods to correct tooth position before using minimally invasive aesthetic dentistry to make further alterations or change tooth shape, size, and/or colour.
Our range of aesthetic dentistry treatments includes:
- non-prep veneers/ etch-pieces
- mucogingival plastic surgery/ pink aesthetics
- tooth-coloured fillings / composite fillings
- replacement of amalgam fillings
- full ceramic crowns, partial crowns, inlays and overlays
- CEREC method
- completely metal-free solutions
Our main priority is the health of your teeth and gums. However, if we can not only maintain but also support their health, while making your smile more beautiful at the same time, then there is great value in aesthetic dentistry.
Aesthetic dentistry using ceramic veneers
Ceramic veneers consist of thin ceramic layers which are attached to the front surface of the teeth to correct their shape, position or colouring for the long-term. To fit a veneer, a very small amount of the original tooth material must be removed, usually up to half a millimetre of the enamel. To make sure that the veneers most accurately restore natural tooth function and create an even better appearance than the original tooth, we work with expert laboratories. These dental laboratories produce individually sculptured, high-quality veneers for each patient following diagnostic mock-up veneers which our patients can test ahead of the procedure.
Aesthetic dentistry using non-prep veneers/ etch-piece ceramic shells
Non-prep veneers (no preparation veneers), also known as etch-pieces, are very thin shells which do not require the removal of tooth material prior to their application. For some patients who wish to make slight position alterations or wish to change tooth shape, size, and/or colour, they can provide a more gentle alternative treatment option to traditional veneers, but are not appropriate for everyone.
In the following example, the right incisor has been replaced with an implant and the other three front teeth have had non-prep ceramic veneers fitted.
This picture was taken after non-prep veneers have been fitted and the right incisor has been replaced with an implant.
Beautiful teeth with Componeers composite shells
In certain cases, we can offer a restoration of the front teeth using thin, ready-made but adaptable composite shells (Componeers) as a more cost effective alternative. Industrially produced composite shells are adapted to the needs of the patients, then glued on and finally personalised to suit the lips and smile line.
Beautiful teeth with mucogingival plastic surgery / pink aesthetics
For optimal aesthetic results, it is often not enough to focus only on the teeth. In many cases, also the gum line has to be improved in order to achieve that perfectly balanced, beautiful smile. This kind of dentistry is called ‘pink aesthetics’ and includes in some cases the covering of exposed roots through a number of surgical techniques (recession coverage).
Tooth-coloured fillings / composite fillings in aesthetic medicine
There are different ways to fill dental cavities. One way is to shape and apply the filling directly during a treatment session, using state-of-the-art composite materials. Another way is to have the restoration made separately – e.g. at a dental laboratory or at our practice, where we can prepare milled porcelain fillings (also known as CEREC).
Replacement of amalgam fillings
While amalgam was once a popular material for fillings, it is rarely used nowadays – and not at all at our practice – due to aesthetic and health reasons (it contains mercury). We replace amalgam fillings in the case of leaks, if new cavities have formed underneath the filling or on the request of patients who are looking for a more aesthetically-pleasing solution. The replacement material is chosen on a case-by-case basis and may include a composite filling, CEREC, a filling handmade at a dental laboratory (typically made of a material called E-Max) or even a crown.
